Internet users are more active
By Mercè Cid
The Internet Catalunya project is a research plan concerning the use of new technologies in every field, conducted by the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3) of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. It began in 2001 and finished in 2007, and 40 researchers worked on it. It was supervised by Manuel Castells and Imma Tubella and enjoyed the support and financial subsidy of the Catalan government.
This project shows that 83% of young people aged between 15 and 24 are Internet users. It also proves that new technologies activate social life and personal autonomy. According to this project, people who use the Internet are more active, have more friends, are more involved in politics and suffer less from depression.
